Aged 56 B attended his GP having cut his right foot.

B was seen at the GP practice by GPs, nurses, and a podiatrist, his wound deteriorated. By the time he was referred to hospital his condition had progressed such that below knee amputation could not be avoided.

BREACH OF DUTY

It was B's case that prompt referral would have resulted in intensive antibiotic therapy leading to recovery from his cut.

OUTCOME

Although liability was not accepted the case was settled for £325,000
