When mothers suffer from birth injuries, it can be extremely serious and have life-changing consequences.  Injuries of this kind can include vaginal tears, fissures, episiotomy, caesarean, pre-eclampsia and infections.  There are also risks in using anaesthetics during child birth, which can cause distress as a result of what is called 'anaesthetics awareness'.

If you believe that you have sustained a birth injury that was caused by medical negligence, our solicitors would like to speak with you. Please call us on 0800 524 4349 or fill in our contact form and one of our team will be in touch.  All information passed on will be held in upmost confidence.

Common Birth Injuries to Mothers in More Detail

•    Vaginal Tears - a skin or muscle rip which is near or around the vagina.  This commonly happens if the baby is big or breech
•    Fissures - this is a tear around the anus which causes pain
•    Episiotomy - a surgical cut to enlarge the vagina that can lead to excessive bleeding, infections and rectal problems
•    Caesarean - performed if the baby is breech.  This involves cutting into the abdominal wall and through the uterus and can lead to blood loss or infection in the uterus.
•    Pre-Eclampsia - symptoms are usually high blood pressure and protein in the urine as well as headaches, weight gain and blurry vision
•    Infections - should be treated immediately

Anaesthetics in the Birthing Procedure

Excessive pain can be felt if the anaesthetic after an episiotomy or caesarean wears off and extra doses are not sufficient to numb the pain - this is known as 'anaesthetic awareness'.  You may be able to claim compensation for lack of pain relief.
