£24,000 following delay in referral for investigation and progression of Hepatitis C infection

Over a 9 year period S attended his GPs on numerous occasions with symptoms of joint and ankle swelling, recurring lower limb rash, and blood in his urine.

Aged 31 S attended a different GP. S was referred to hospital where Hepatitis C was diagnosed.

S was treated and made a good recovery.

BREACH OF DUTY

It was S's case that he should have been referred earlier to hospital.

CAUSATION 

It was S's case that earlier referral would have resulted in effective treatment 18 months sooner.

OUTCOME

Although liability was not admitted the case was settled for £24,000 representing compensation for pain and suffering as well as loss of earnings and other expenses.
