Cauda Equina are the nerves based at the base of the spinal column which feed out to the legs, lower abdomen areas and also controls movement and sensation. A common cause of cauda equina syndrome is a prolapsed disk pressing on the bundle of nerve roots at the base of the spine.  If compression is either undiagnosed or if there is a delay in diagnosis and treatment continuing compression will cause disability, loss of sexual function, difficultly in evacuation of waste products, altered sensation and reduced mobility, and in some cases paraplegia.

If you believe there has been a delay in diagnosis or treatment of your cauda equine syndrome, or even a complete failure to diagnose your cauda equine please do contact us.  We have many years experience in brining claims arising from negligent failures in diagnosis and treatment of cauda equine syndrome and can recover full financial compensation for you to, in as far as money can, reduce the consequences of your cauda equine syndrome.  Please do contact one of our experienced solicitors by either filling in our online contact form or by calling 0800 524 4349.

Symptoms of Cauda Equina

If there is pressure on the nerves, there are common symptoms which occur.  These are:

•    Abnormal reflexes
•    Lower back pain and is tender

Cauda Equina Syndrome can be diagnosed through physical assessment and confirmed by radiological investigation.  Nerve compression must be treated as an emergency and should be dealt with as soon as diagnosed.
