Mrs D presented to her GP with abdominal pain. She was advised she was suffering from gastroenteritis and could travel.

Mrs D subsequently suffered a burst appendix.

BREACH OF DUTY

It was Mrs D's case that her presentation was such that her GP should have referred her to hospital for investigation for appendicitis.

CAUSATION

It was Mrs D's case that prompt referral would have led to diagnosis of appendicitis, removal of appendix and the complications avoided.

OUTCOME

At trial Mrs D was awarded compensation of £23,750
