MRSA infection following total knee replacement

R v Wrightington Wigan and Leigh NHS Trust (2007)

Aged 70 Mrs R underwent total knee replacement.

Mrs R was readmitted with MRSA infection of her knee replacement. The knee replacement needed to be removed.

BREACH OF DUTY

It was Mrs C's case that there had been failures in the hospitals systems leading to infection

CAUSATION

It was Mrs C's case that but for her infection she would have made a good recovery from operation and returned to normal living within three months.

OUTCOME

Compensation was agreed at £45,000 without admission of liability
