£100,000 following below knee amputation due to infected pressure sore

FACTS

Mr B, a long term diabetic, developed pressure sores to both heels and his sacrum following abdominal surgery.

The pressure sores were not initially treated and Mr B developed an MRSA infection of his sores.

Mr B's infection was so severe that he required right below knee amputation.

BREACH OF DUTY

It was Mr B's case that his pressure sores should have been prevented, or treated properly when first developed. As a diabetic he was know to have a high risk of developing pressure sores.

CAUSATION

It was Mr B's case that had his pressure sores been avoided or identified and managed before overwhelming MRSA infection set in his amputation would have been avoided and he would have made a full recovery.

OUTCOME

The case was settled without trial for £100,000
