Incorrect prescription, endometrial thickening leading to hysterectomy, settlement £30,000

G v Davis (2007)

Aged 55 G's HRT medication was changed by her GP to an oestrogen only prescription.

Two years after the change in prescription G developed uterine bleeding.

Another GP recognised that G's HRT medication was inappropriate. G was referred for investigation.

G was diagnosed with endometrial thickening and underwent hysterectomy.

BREACH OF DUTY

It was G's case that it was inappropriate for her to be prescribed oestrogen only HRT medication when she had an intact uterus.

CAUSATION

It was G's case that had she remained on her previous prescription she would not have required hysterectomy.

OUTCOME

G's case was settled without admission of liability by compensation payment of £30,000
